Third molars or wisdom teeth are so named because they are usually the last teeth of the adult dentition to erupt. When there is insufficient space or the angle of eruption is unfavorable, the tooth may remain impacted or only partially erupt through the gingival. These teeth are often associated with problems such as infection, pain, damage to adjacent teeth, cysts and although rare, tumors.
